Auto Racing Oval — 11 February 2013
We as Race Fans here in New England have been fortunate to have witnessed some of the greatest full bodied Stock Car Drivers in the Country. We all have our opinion as to Who is the most successful Driver to have graced our beloved short tracks.
This would include Past or Present Drivers, like Johhny Clark who has won 6 PASS Championships or a Past Driver like Dick McCabe who won 4 Busch North Championships. But do these Championships mean they are the most successful. I want to hear from you,let us know what you think. It can be your local Pro Stock, Late Model or Street Stock Driver, he or she does not have to be from a touring series.

I’ll go with Mike Rowe. Always been my favorite driver and he has shown to still be competitive even after all the years he’s been competing.

Kevin Lepage took his success the furthest, literally getting out of New England and making it to the Busch series, and eventually Cup. Was he the best driver? Ricky Craven</i? came along, took Lepages ride in the EJP car and also made it south with a level of success more than Lepage. Was he the best of his time? I think that, given equal equipment, Ricky was no better than a Robbie Crouch, a Dragon brother, McCabe, Dion or any number of other drivers. He wanted to be more than a local driver and got to the bigger stage. Mind you, Dynamite Dave Dion did go South and had little success, but does that mean he was worse than Craven of Lepage? They (Craven and Lepage) made it further because that is what they wanted; this in no way says that they were better.

The first driver that came to my mind when I saw this question was Mike Rowe, but since Evan already mentioned him I am going to go with Larry Gelinas. He has done a lot on a limited budget over the years. He has something like 5 track championships, an Oxford 250 win, and has won races at tracks all over New England.

Since you included NE I say “Pistol Pete Hamilton” with Ronnie Bouchard a fast 2nd.
