The one thing every race fan loves about their sport, the cars.  Everyone has a favorite, and everyone’s is 99% of the time different.  The beauty of our sport is that they can all look different (unless you’re in Nascar, it’s typically frowned upon there).  Whether it be car shape, style or even the paint scheme, each car has it’s unique ways of standing out.

(Welcome to Question of the Week, where we ask the Motorsports fan questions in search for the best answers.  You may comment below with an image of your favorite, and next week we will post what we think are the ten best answers)

In open wheel competition, there are many radical designs, and this one is one of the best in my opinion. Ken Hamilton’s Eagle Aircraft “Cropduster” of 1982. I honestly haven’t done enough research to know how it did, but that’s the great thing about great looking cars, you’re still remembered if you don’t win.

If you go even further, you can get even more whacked designs, like this Nissan Deltawing.  The purpose of the car was to eliminate tire wear and fuel consumption in half, compared to a normal Le Mans style car, and did so with a crazy aerodynamic look.  While some thing it is ugly, I think it is a great work of art, which is why we have discussions like this.

However, when you think of a great car, to me you need to look no further than a Nascar Modified. Richie Evan’s cars always took the cake.

What are your favorites?  Are my favorites ridiculous?  Be sure to upload an image of your favorite race car as well so we can see!

The first car that drew me in when I first really started getting into racing in the late ’90s was Mark Martin’s #6 Valvoline car. Other cars since have been cooler, and others at that time probably were, but that was the one I was attracted to – probably because it was the best Ford at the time.

It’s tough to narrow down all the great looking cars from all types of racing, because there are just too many. I’d never have enough time to post a pic of every single one lol. Evan you are right, those are all cool looking cars, theres alot of engineering behind them (especially that delta wing). I just looked thru my pictures quickly, and found this, Hispania Racing Team’s livery from 2011, imo, a very nice scheme.

As far as im concerned, the ISMA Supermodified is one of the best racecars there is. Most of these cars have really simple paint schemes, but they still look sharp. They dont need to be painted up nice to catch your eye. Their huge engines, tires and wing is what draws you to these machines (and their rediculous speed of course). For example, this Johnny Benson car is about as simple as you can make a racecar, but it still caught my attention.

I have many favorite race cars and yes Richie was one of my all-time favorite drivers. But as far as innovators Jimmy Shampine not only built his own cars but could drive the hell out of them. This particular car he built is one of my favorite cars, open wheel wheel race cars are by far the best looking machine’s to hit the track. I’m talking northern open wheel race cars, i’ve never really been a fan of F1 or Indy style cars.

I grew up loving IMSA GTP endurance racing. There were some beautiful cars in that series – the Porsche 962s, the Group 44 Jaguars and my personal favorite – the Corvette GTP. The lines just looked like what a racecar should look like and there were still a few cues to the road cars that they represented.

I always liked the pro stock (super latemodel). I remember first watching these at Lee USA Speedway around “86. They are still my favorite today.
